World Leadership Forum 2012

Last week, Bapak Waleed was invited to attend the World Leadership Forum in New York City, one of the foremost public forums on global affairs. The President of Indonesia, H.E. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono AC, was invited to give one of the keynote addresses, and he received the prestigious Foreign Policy Association Medal. He spoke on “Defining the Future: How the Emerging Powers Will Reshape the Global Politic”.

The President’s inspiring remarks touched on many topics, and he painted a positive global picture where emerging powers, such as Indonesia, exercise an increasing influential role on the world stage, bringing balance and prosperity to all people. He discussed the role of culture and the arts as means by which to build bridges between communities, specifically mentioning the traditional movement arts of Silat. He stated the importance of taking responsibility for equitable trade practices, for establishing democratic ideals, and for protecting the environment through sustainable development.

Bapak Waleed exchanged a greeting and a few words with President H.E. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono AC toward the end of session. The President acknowledged Bapak Waleed, who consistently reaches out to help local communities in Indonesia, and the two men were able to share a brief personal connection.
