In early 2015, a group of 9 dancers from Aceh, Indonesia, from the northern tip of the island of Sumatra, are visiting the United States and touring throughout the Northeast. Their tour is taking the ladies around various locations in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York, to both perform and lead seminars and workshops. Sponsored in part by the Asia Society, the National Endowment for the Arts, the New England Foundation for the Arts, the Doris Duke Foundation, and arts centers at Wesleyan University, Wellesley College, and the College of the Holy Cross, the “Celebrate Aceh!” Dance Tour will bring the vibrancy of Indonesian culture to life for many who have never experienced anything like it before. As advertised in the Hartford Courant, “the show mixes folk dances, sacred music, percussion, elaborate costumes and complex choreography…”
